Chapter 5 Summary:
This chapter explains about the backyard of 803 Oriole Street. All the children in the neighbourhood stay away for this backyard. One day a young boy's scream was heard and it was comeing from the backyard of 803 Oriole Street. Maniac pretends this boys name was Arnold Jones. Apperently he was being hoisted over the fence by 3 High School students who liked to bully kids just for fun. Poor Arnold Jones was left in the backyard with hiis teeth chattering like a steady drum. Then his whole body starts to shake uncontrolably while the high scool bullies yell " he's got the finsterwallies!" Next a boy came from nowhere and jumps over the fence without even laying a hand on the fence to get over. Chapter 8 Summary:
This chapter explains how Maniac got the name Maniac. All the School was buzzing about the 'new kid'. Kids were talking about how he rescued Arnold Jones from the backyard of 803 Oriole Street. They were also talking about how the new kid had tatooed Giant John McNab's fastball for half a dozen home run's. The kids couldn't belive what this kid could do they thought he was a Maniac. Then everyone around called him a Maniac. For a wile maniac had no real home no where to lay his head. Maniac slept at the Elmwood Park Zoo. While he was there he disided to read Amanda Beale's book. Normally he would have returned the book as soon as possible but he loved the book so much he read it in just one afternoon. After it was done he read it the next day and the next when he wasn't reading he was wandering. When people wander they usually walk but when Maniac wandered he ran.
Chapter 10 Summary:
In this Chapter Maniac finds hinmself in the same place that he had first met Amanda Beale. He discovered that he has been here before because he reconizes the streets. He notices something different there are tons of kids everywhere! Then just before his eyes a kid jumps right out in front of him. Maniac stops so he doesn't bump into the kid nearly stumbling backwards. The kid stepped toward him every time Maniac steped back. They traveled nearly half a block doing this. Maniac was fed up and he desided to turn around and walk away but then the kid plopped him self right infront of him and took a bite of his chocolate bar. Then he said, "Where you going?" Maniac replied, "I'm looking for Sycamore Street". The kid said, "I know where that is" but he refused to tell him where it was located. Maniac thought in his head that a stone was softer than this kid's glare this must be Mars Bar Thompson. As Maniac looked around he noticed all the kid's had stopped playing and were now staring at him! Suddenly the Mars Bar's glare got harder then. . . out of nowhere he started to smile. As he smiled he held out the chocolate bar that he was eating and asked him if he wanted a bite. Maniac couldn't believe his ears he said, "are you sure?" Mars Bar answered and said, "Yeah sure take a bite." Maniac was so confused but he decided to take a bite anyways. Then dead silence Maniac had just did the unthinkable he put his lips where a black person's lips were. Mars Bar got real mad and he punched Maniac right in the chest. Now Maniac was really confused because Mars Bar had just told him to take a bite so he did and now Mars Bar had punched him? Mars Bar asked him "do you think your bad?" Maniac was confused but he answered anyways, "No, I don't think I'm that bad." Now Mars Bar was really irritated, "Do you think that I'm bad?" Maniac thought to himself "well one minute you say i can take a bite of your chocolate bar, then the next minute you punch me in the chest" but he replied "no I don't think you are bad." That was not what Mars Bar wanted to hear "Tell me I'm Bad!" Maniac didn't think it was his business telling him if he was bad or if he was good so he replied, "I think that is your parents job to tell you if your bad or if you are good." Mars Bar looked at the book Maniac was carrying, What's that?" he asked. Before Maniac could answer mars Bar had snatched it from his hands then Maniac snatched it back and said, "It's mine!" But while he snatched it out of Mars Bars hands one page had still been left in it. Maniac yelled with tears in his eyes "Give me back the page!" Then suddenly they heard a voice say, "I'll take it. . better yet Mars Bar give him back the page!" Mars Bar crumpled up the page and handed back the page. Then the lady told Maniac to be on his way because she couldn't b looking out for him all day. So Maniac walked away.
